wire/Tube China 2014 – The After Show

The 6th edition of the All China Wire & Cable Industry Trade Fair – wire China 2014 – and the 6th All China Tube & Pipe Industry Trade Fair – Tube China 2014 – ended on Saturday, 27th September, after four days of meetings, conferences and business matching activities.

The visitor number hit a new record: on the first day, almost 13,500 professionals entered the fairground of the New International Exhibition Center (SNIEC) in Shanghai, with a 30% increase compared to the previous edition.

The trade show featured 1,400 international exhibitors and various national pavilions including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, North America, and South Korea.

We collected comments of some of the companies and associations present at the exhibition, in order to get their opinion of the event and an outlook of the situation for this industry in China.

Mr Bellina, ACIMAF (Italian Wire & Machinery Association): “wire China has grown year after year, the increasing number of visitors is remarkable. There are also more Chinese exhibitors than ever. Competition is tough, we have to be one step ahead, focus on quality and niche markets. What I noticed is that an ecological conscience and more attention to the workplace health is slowly beginning to emerge here; I believe in the future companies offering energy and labor saving solutions will be rewarded.”

Mr Stock, August Strecker GmbH: “The Chinese market is still worth to be present, we are always looking forward to meeting new customers. Our company's presence in this country dates back to more than 40 years ago.”

Mr Eder, AWCMA (Austrian Wire & Cable Machinery Association): "The fair was distinctly better organised than in 2012. The quality of visitors in general improved. An increasing demand for Western-made industrial goods/machines could be noted again. Now Chinese can afford them more easily than before; they're understanding that their cheaper copies are less efficient, and require more frequent spare parts and repairing actions. In addition, buyers/users of "originals" can demonstrate towards their customers to offer better quality products than their competitors using "home made" Chinese equipment.

Mr Verez Crespo, Flymca & Flyro: “This was an interesting wire show for us, mainly for meeting customers coming from outside of China.”

Mr Lewis, IWMA (International Wire & Machinery Association): "The International Wire & Machinery Association was honoured to be an international supporter of the recent wire China 2014 exhibition held in Shanghai. The event, enjoying its 10th anniversary, was again expertly organised by Messe Düsseldorf, Messe Düsseldorf China and their local partners MC-CCPIT (Metallurgical Council of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade) and SECRI (Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute)."

Mr Lohmüller, Maschinenfabrik Niehoff: “wire China is the second most international trade fair, after the fair in Düsseldorf. At our stand there were customers coming from Africa, Australia, Iran, Irak, Russia, India, Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan… The organization was very good, however, I'd suggest to turn back to the previous format: still four days, but from Tuesday to Friday, excluding Saturday. What I also could notice on this trade show was that many Chinese machine manufacturers have adopted NIEHOFF technology...”

Mr Sachdev, Wire & Plastic Machinery Corporation: “We came to every single edition since the beginning, 10 years ago, and will certainly participate in the future. We had discussions with several customers, made interesting contacts, and were able to meet our agents in this area. I'm very satisfied.”

Many companies and associations featured on Expometals.net were exhibiting in Shanghai. Some pictures of their booths are to be found on Expometals' Twitter channel at this link.
The contents of four companies that decided to join Expometals during the event are going to be displayed in the coming weeks: Ceeco Bartell Products - Bartell Machinery Systems LLC. (U.S.A.), IFP (Italy), RAD-CON Inc. (U.S.A.) and Ultimate Automation Ltd. (U.K.).

The next wire/Tube shows in China are scheduled for September 26-29, 2016, whereas the forthcoming wire fair is going to take place in India, on October 28-30, together with Metallurgy India, Tube India International, and Welding & Cutting India 2014. We will dedicate a special preview article to wire & Cable India very soon. If you're exhibiting at this show, please send us your press releases.
