A closer look at ABS departments: the steelworks

The steelworks is the beating heart of ABS. Here is where the raw materials such as scrap and ferrous alloys are manufactured into steel.

All year long, two independent casting lines produce 100% degassed material while meeting those efficiency and sustainability requirements that make ABS a role model in the national and European steel scene.
The casting lines consist of two electric furnaces with 100 tons capacity, the respective secondary plants (Ladle Furnace and Vacuum Degassing), and the systems for steel solidification (three continuous casting lines and one ingot mold).

Everyday ABS steelworks churns out an amount of steel equal to 3,000 medium-sized cars in weight, in various standard or customized steel grades.

The steel making company ABS was established in 1988, by the merging of two well-known Italian steel companies, Officine Bertoli and Acciaierie Safau. Ever since its inception, ABS has been focusing on technological innovation and sustainability.
