In view of the next edition of the US-based exhibition called Interwire (Atlanta, GA - May 14-16) we interviewed Mr Michael Stock, managing partner of August Strecker GmbH & Co. KG.
For more than 80 years, STRECKER has been a renowned manufacturer of butt welding machines for almost any application in the wire and cable industry, with a large and international customer base.
- Strecker has a very long history in the wire & cable business. How has the company evolved over time?
A patent was the base for manufacturing the first welding machine in 1933.
Today August Strecker GmbH & Co. KG is an internationally operating, dynamic family-owned company established in the central Hessian city of Limburg on the Lahn River.
With more than 80 employees we are the first point of contact for individual complete solutions in welding technology.
Basing on our decades of experience we focus on permanent process optimization.
August Strecker ranks among the market and technology leaders worldwide in this segment with sales channels in more than 60 countries.
- Which is your best selling product and why is it so successful?
Strecker is known for conventional mechanic wire butt welding machines with simple „STRECKER Single-Lever Operation” and long lifetime. This model range is sold in large quantities. Our machines equipped with “FPC” are always required when the highest degree of automatization is in demand. Strecker: 4.0 ready.
- How are your relationships with other companies in the industry?
There is a close cooperation with suppliers of manufacturing lines and special-purpose engineering. We are a reliable and long-time partner attaching great importance to quality and service, factors appreciated by our collaboration partners.
- How do you train your workforce?
All our employees have completed skilled workers’ apprenticeships in Germany. This is an excellent base for our continuing education with in-house trainings and external courses as well as online training.
- How did you implement the prerogatives of industry 4.0 in your production process?
For a couple of years already we have connected our production machinery to our ERP system. A lot of data is captured, this is state-of-the-art. We produce with modern machinery using innovative software. In our production, 4.0 is not yet available.
- Some say the 'best times are over' for the German industry. What do you think about it?
As a partner to our long-time customers we must emphasize the strong innovative drive of German companies. What was an obvious matter in the past now requires active communication, so we have to reiterate the concepts of innovation and reliability for the years to come.
