KRENN installs material testing press in wire rod mill of leading steel manufacturer

“In November 2019, we made it: after intensive planning, engineering, and assembly, as well as an extensive test phase at KRENN, we put into operation our latest testing press Z160/Z315 on time and without any deviations in the wire rod mill of one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers.
As part of a huge modernization project carried out in the wire rod mill, KRENN had been assigned to deliver a testing machine for in-line wire rod quality control in accordance with DIN EN 10263-1.”

During the initial testing phase, the press cuts wire samples to the required length (the cross-sectional surface area, after cutting, is even and smooth). Then, in the second phase, the sample is subject to upsetting to one third of its original height. Naturally, the machine allows cutting and upsetting of test samples at the same time.

Changing the format is a matter of seconds, as you only have to change the blade holder (there is a wire selection of blades available for every dimension needs). Then, you just have to select the specific program among a variety of presets with a single touch through a uniquely engineered software, avoiding any unnecessary delay.

In order to reduce the negative impact of strong ambient temperature fluctuations, the hydraulic power pack is equipped with an oil heater and cooler, while the control cabinet features an air conditioning unit. These systems become active when the temperature exceeds or drops below the pre-defined thresholds.

The custom height measurement system allows the finest precision during upsetting tests and guarantees a constant quality to enable our customers to quickly address any irregularity.
