Trafileria Lecchese, behind the scenes of the Metallographic Laboratory

Many years of experience in the production of steel wires have led Trafileria Lecchese to become the first choice for many experts in the field.

In 2017, against a backdrop of continuous company improvement, the Italy-based firm established a modern Metallographic Laboratory with three precise objectives. First, to allow the internal control of raw material and finished products to maximize production quality. Second, to assist the customer in designing new products or in improving existing ones. Third, to speed up as much as possible the addressing of any problem that may arise, taking into account the fast times required by the Automotive industry. The employees of the Metallographic Laboratory have gained full knowledge of the materials used in the drawing process and can thus better understand their behavior, helping the customer to discover the causes of a possible defect.

The Metallographic Laboratory of Trafileria Lecchese boasts a macroscope (up to 50 magnifications) and a Zeiss microscope that allows all the way up to 1000 magnifications.

The facility features state-of-the-art, specifically engineered ATM-branded equipment that does not alter the material structure: a special miter saw for the preparation of samples, a hot embedding machine for the creation of metallographic specimens, and a polishing machine. Starting from the raw material, such samples are created, polished, and analyzed under the microscope. Nital and Picrato chemical attacks are carried out to discover possible structural defects and to check the wire coating state.

Almost five years after its creation, the Metallographic Laboratory has proved to be an invaluable asset for the company, helping to improve the quality and service that Trafileria Lecchese has been offering its customers.
