UK to adopt post-Brexit steel safeguard measures

As reported by Meps, the UK Department for International Trade has made a determination regarding the safeguard measures to be applied on imports of steel products into the UK, following the conclusion of the Brexit transition period, on January 1, 2021.
The new rules will reflect those already adopted by the European Commission. There will be a quarterly and country-based quota system (TRQ Tariff Rate Quota) to protect domestic steel producers from the excessive flow of incoming goods from other countries.
The tariff rate quota system will apply to imports into the United Kingdom of goods belonging to 19 product categories (including rebars, stainless, alloy and non-alloy wire rod, welded tubes, non-alloy wire).
Suppliers from developing countries included in a specific list may receive an exemption from the measures.
