Engineering, Equipment and Services for modernization of existing Aluminum Wire Rod Mills (WRM)

Engineering, Equipment and Services for modernization of existing Aluminum Wire Rod Mills (WRM)

Based on a recent reliable assessment made by our Marketing Dept., there are in operation worldwide approximately 430÷450 AL (WRMs) which have been supplied by various reputed OEMs during the past 50 years or so.

Some of such WRMs are relatively young and/or have been constantly updated during the years while others are technically obsolete.

It is well-known that obsolescence affects primarily the safety of the operations and oftentimes the OpEx of the operations. Last but not least, it might prevent the Rod Producers from exploring new Alloys required by the market.

To replace the complete AL WRM or to modernize it - that is a kind of dilemma which deserves the deepest analysis and strategic considerations. In this regard, GMS/ENGITEC is a new OEM qualified for studying and carrying out the modernization of existing AL WRMs.

For example, GMS/ENGITEC has recently successfully concluded the project, on EPC basis, covering the Modernization to Safety of one of the largest AL WRM located in Europe.
Equipment, designed and supplied by GMS/ENGITEC, such as AGA (Aladdin Guiding Arms) combined with the SPR (Smart Pinch Roll) has been conceived to eliminate hazardous manual work during the start-up of any existing Al and Cu rod or casting plant.

On the right, a typical AGA suitable for 4-wheel crystallizer machines; in the top right corner, a view of the AGA System recently commissioned by GMS/ENGITEC.

The AGA system is aimed at pulling and guiding the cast bar during the start-up transient. It comprises two tilting arms each equipped with a motorized caterpillar. This system, complete with bar deflector, is designed for installation on almost all existing crystallization machines in operation worldwide.

GMS/ENGITEC will be happy to provide technical advice on revamping solutions, tailored on Industry 4.0 concepts, and technical and technological consulting aimed at reducing production costs for any existing AL WRM or CU WRM.
