Hydraulic presetting machine, how to improve performances of unground spring

Hydraulic presetting machine, how to improve performances of unground spring

Presetting involves compressing the spring beyond its operating limits, inducing a controlled plastic deformation. This process aims to reduce initial relaxation, thus improving performance and extending the spring's service life.

The hydraulic presetting machine developed by Easydur is specifically designed for unground springs and achieves an efficient, accurate, and repeatable process. It is a semi-automatic solution ideal for small and medium volumes; for higher production needs, Easydur also offers fully automatic solutions.

Easydur machine structure

The result of 40 years of experience in the spring industry, the machine features manual spring feeding with a buffer area for a continuous and smooth flow.

The springs are then transported on a rotating conveyor belt equipped with precision-machined pins and dedicated supports to accommodate different geometries.

The conveyor belt moves the springs through a sequence of automated stations, which are the very heart of the system. The first station features a special spring orientation mechanism that ensures proper alignment for compression, regardless of the initial orientation.

Once orientated, the spring moves to the second station, where a hydraulic presser applies a controlled force to compress the spring beyond its solid height, producing the intended plastic deformation. This way, the spring is set to a defined free height, improving load consistency and fatigue life — which is the core principle of presetting.

Logic and controls

The system is managed by a PLC control that precisely coordinates all mechanical and hydraulic operations. Through an intuitive touchscreen interface, it is possible to configure, save, and recall customized parameters and settings for each type of spring or production batch, optimizing setup times and improving efficiency.

In this robust and semi-automated solution, smart controls, modular design with adaptable pin supports, and programmable interface come together to support a wide range of unground compression springs.

Feeding, orientation, presetting, as well as recipe management, are all integrated into a single linear process, ensuring consistent and traceable results and performance.

Why choose a presetting machine?

As we have seen, the presetting process improves the performance of unground springs by reducing height loss under load, stabilizing the spring behavior under repeated stress, and eliminating initial relaxation. As a result, components and products using these springs — whether in automotive, industrial, or other applications — benefit in terms of reliability and longevity.

But before presetting… let’s test some wire

We know well spring manufacturers work with wire: it is, in fact, the main 'ingredient' for manufacturing any type of spring. It goes without saying that – whether produced in-house or purchased – spring wire must be of the highest quality.

And the only way to guarantee this is to test its properties with the appropriate testing machines. To ensure these standards, Easydur designs and manufactures dedicated testing systems, developed for sectors such as wire drawing, spring manufacturing, constructions, and more.

Available configurations range from single or double column structures, vertical or horizontal, with capacities from a few Newtons up to tens of tons. Easydur machines can mount up to three load cells permanently installed and ready for use, while the range of accessories and fixtures is practically unlimited.
