Case study: Japanese manufacturer ramps up T-LSB production with new 2-die REGG Rolling machine

Case study: Japanese manufacturer ramps up T-LSB production with new 2-die REGG Rolling machine

In 2024, REGG Rolling, a division of REGG Inspection faced a specific challenge in the wooden building sector and delivered a 2R750HD rolling machine in less than one year to a key customer in Japan, TONEJI CO., LTD. Already a user of the larger 3R500HD three-die thread rolling machine, TONEJI put all its trust in REGG Rolling’s capability for this new project.

The company's fastening parts for wooden buildings, such as the TONEJI lag screw bolt T-LSB, can now be processed in sizes of Φ19.5 mm and Φ25 mm, allowing it to meet the expected increase in demand for wooden buildings. The REGG Rolling 2R750HD machine allows for a minimum workpiece diameter of 12 mm up to 50 mm with an inclination of 8°, all while maintaining micrometric tolerances. This flexibility is expected to improve the productivity of small diameter specifications.

Why TONEJI chose the REGG Rolling 2R750HD thread rolling machine

TONEJI has been cooperating with REGG Rolling’s R&D department since 2023 to expand the compatible diameter of the T-LSB line.

When selecting the model, President Okabe inspected REGG Rolling’s equipment at an exhibition, particularly valuing its ability to handle difficult processing and its maximum pressure of 750 kN (75 t). In addition to T-LSB production, the 2R750HD is also intended for cold rolling parts that were previously processed by cutting, making it particularly suitable for the mass production of large-diameter cold-formed products. By maintaining high accuracy, the machine is expected to lead to cost reduction.

Initial trials, which began in May, highlighted its high rigidity and user-friendly features. Operators praised its intuitive touch panel interface, the capability to adjust die position with 1-micron resolution, as well as the digital recording of various data, including feed and rotation speeds. This has increased the reproducibility of items with the same specifications and made it easier to readjust when changing the setup to other parts.

Successful installation and customer support

The REGG Rolling 2R750HD was fully installed and tested at TONEJI’s facility in April 2025. REGG Rolling delegated the expert technician Paolo Rizzetti to help the customer during the run-off and provide on-site training. After the machine installation, it was reported to have successfully fulfilled and exceeded all the customer’s expectations.

KINSAN Journal in Japan already published an article about the wonderful results of TONEJI’s production.

Inside REGG Rolling’s expertise

REGG Inspection
, based in Milan (Italy), has been designing and manufacturing high-precision inspection machines since 2008. These systems are known for their high-speed, high-quality controls, and reliability.

In 2012, the company expanded its operations by establishing REGG Rolling, a dedicated division specializing in the design and manufacture of high-precision two- and three-die thread rolling machines. The company produces very robust machines for cold and warm rolling of high tensile materials such as 12.9 steel, titanium, Inconel, and other exotic alloys. Available with PLC or CNC controls, they enable quick machine setup and simple use.

The main markets include the US, Japan, the UK, and Europe, especially Germany and Italy. A team of highly skilled technicians supports both product development and after-sales service, with service centers based in all key strategic areas to promptly serve all customers.

REGG Inspection and REGG Rolling will be exhibiting at MF Tokyo from July 16 to 19. Come visit at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center, Stand 4-14, East Hall. For further information please visit the company's website www.reggrolling.com or email to [email protected]!
