Automation-driven reel manufacturing: Inosym’s response to wire & cable industry demands

The wire and cable industry is evolving, pushing suppliers to deliver not only quality but also flexibility, consistency, and cost-efficiency. Inosym Ltd —headquartered in Christchurch, New Zealand— has embraced this challenge with a decisive investment in automation, aiming to raise the standards of reel manufacturing for producers worldwide.

Technology at the core of production

Operating out of a 30,000 m² manufacturing facility, Inosym has integrated robotic welding cells, automated material handling systems, CNC machining, and electrostatic painting into its core production processes. These technological upgrades ensure tight tolerances, smooth surface finishes, and reliable mechanical performance across both plastic and steel reel lines.

High automation levels also enable faster turnaround times, greater process repeatability, and compatibility with robotic loading systems—features increasingly required in advanced cable manufacturing plants.

Comprehensive steel and plastic reel range for high-speed lines

Inosym supplies a wide selection of plastic and steel reels, engineered in accordance with European and U.S. standards:

Steel reels:

• SM (semi-machined) and FM (fully machined) reels for drawing, stranding, bunching, and pay-off operations, with dynamic balancing per ISO 1940 and operational speeds up to 50 m/s.

• MF (metal flange) process reels per DIN 46395, available from 100 mm to 1250 mm flange diameter. Designed for copper, aluminum, fiber optic, and steel wire applications, including insulated cable, rope, and welding wire.

• Collapsible reels and PL-type spools for lightweight handling and assembly line flexibility.

Plastic reels:

• High-strength spools for magnet wire (PT), copper (PC), welding wire, braiding, and Japanese standard formats.

• Reinforced models for high-speed winding, with tight tolerances and antistatic finishes available upon request.

All products are engineered for compatibility with modern machinery and can be customized to meet customer specifications.

Focus from Interwire 2025

During Interwire 2025, Inosym showcased its latest reel solutions and highlighted the direct benefits of automation—improved reel quality, reduced cycle times, and increased process control. The event confirmed strong interest from both North and South American manufacturers seeking scalable, high-performance solutions.
