Since many years the rolling cassettes have been introduced in the wire plants. Today they are commonly used for a wide range of applications. They often allow either to overpass the limits of the classic die wire drawing or to suit new products through new methods. Even though the purpose is always the cold shaping of the metallic wire sections, they use rolls instead of classic dies.
Despite of the exceptions that could be moved around the use of the rollling cassettes, it is undeniable they represent now a reality together with and the advantages that can be drawn.
In this context, the italian company PROMILLS specializing in the cold shaping of the metallic wire sections and thanks to a multi-decennial experience in the field of the cold roll forming and drawing process, has developped and set-up a design system that allows to obtain a very wide range of rolling cassettes by using just a few standardized components.
PROMILLS trough his MODULAR SYSTEM is able since several years to fit into either old or brand new drawing lines the right standard or upon request rolling cassette. Up today more than 50 models of standard or special rolling cassettes have been put in operation and we can estimate that under the same system it is possible to built up more than hundred different standard models or configurations (theoretically 361 excluded special models).
In the light of what above it is quite sure that it is possible to operate in order to build a sequence of rolling groups to suit any kind of wire profile within a range of round equivalent diameters of 1-16 mm.
Each rolling cassette is made of 1 or 2 groups of rolls. Each group can have 2, 3 or 4 rolls within an range of outer diameter from 80 to 210 mm. The following table shows some possible combinations of homogeneous rolling groups:
Furthermore the Promills Modular System allows to put different kinds of groups of rolls together in the same rolling cassettes.
All the Promills rolling cassettes are provided of all devices that allows the total control on the rolls either during the pre-setting phase either while running. The mechanics is specially studied to make it easy to use even to a low experienced operator. The adjusting can be carried out with high accuracy and easily. Moreover all the groups of rolls are provided of the cooling and greasing circuits of the bearings that support the rolls.
The Promills Rolling Cassettes have a lot of applications and they can work either low or high carbon steel wire, ropes and cables. Here below we report just some of the categorized field:
- low carbon ribbed wire for concrete (i.e. electro-welded mesh);
- high carbon ribbed wire for concrete (pre-stressed wire);
- regular shaped wire such as triangle, rectangle, square, hexagonal etc (i.e Allen keys, nails, etc.);
- asymmetrical profiles such as half-oval, trapezoidal, isoscele triangle for screen wire etc.;
- other special profile (i.e. skid chains wire, etc.)
It is also to be point out how Promills has introduced in this years new rolling systems by using particular sequences of rolls. One of these is the milling of the squares and rectangular shapes by applying just 4 rolls to obtain their complete range even keeping under control the corners and limiting the risk of rolls' chippings. The same technique allow today to earn a considerable quantity of energy while running.
A witness of what above comes from the field of the ropes and cables where the rolling cassette has in fact replaced the classic shell-die.
Finally Promills announces the recent starting of the production of the standard steel and tungsten carbide rolls and he is now able to supply a the rolling cassettes completely set and making it ready to use.
