Hot-dip galvanizing to protect chains against corrosion

Hot-dip galvanizing is a complex processing performed with the aim of increasing a product’s corrosion resistance. The metal artefact first needs to be pre-treated (de-greased and pickled) and is later dipped in a bath of molten zinc at an extremely high temperature (around 450° C). Compared to other treatments such as painting, hot-dip galvanizing actually provides superior protection against corrosion, as it converts the coating to a zinc/iron alloy that does not just covers the metal but fits perfectly to the surface and is virtually impossible to remove (except through the use of special tools).

The Italian chain manufacturer Catenificio Moro specializes in the production of raw and galvanized genovese chains from 6 to 22 mm, according to the EN ISO 1461 standard. This type of chains are especially suited for roadsteads or harbors. All Moro’s chains, fabricated by resistance butt-welding, have an extremely high tensile strength and can withstand considerable workloads. Only the finest raw materials are employed. The hot-dip galvanizing, as per EN ISO 1461 standard, is the most recommended and most popular treatment to protect your chains from the exposure to corrosive agents.

Not just genovese chains!
Catenificio Moro’s production range also includes large-sized chains, with diameters ranging from 24 to 70 mm. These chains are generally supplied in standard sizes (25m each) with black painting finish or hot-dip galvanized. Also worth mentioning are the accessories such as shackles, bow shackles, commercial D shackles and much more.
