Thread-cutting screws for fastening on pre-painted holes

Kilton thread-cutting screws type F are designed to ensure reliable fastening on sheet metal and pre-painted components.
Their geometry is engineered to manage the presence of the surface coating in a controlled way: the fluted point (Type F) removes the paint layer exclusively at the edge of the hole, allowing stable screw start and effective metal-to-metal contact, without affecting the surrounding coating. This results in lower installation torque, improved process control, and higher final fastening quality.
The screws are manufactured from carbon steel 1018–1022 and feature high surface hardness.
Dimensional range and configuration
Kilton thread-cutting screws are available with Philips pan head, in accordance with the relevant dimensional standards for industrial applications.
The dimensional range includes:
• nominal diameters: 2.9 – 3.5 – 4.2 – 4.8 mm;
• lengths: up to 38 mm, with tolerances defined according to nominal length.
The thread complies with DIN 7970 B (type F), while the head meets UNI 6954 B / DIN 7981 F specifications, ensuring compatibility with the main fastening systems used in production lines.
These characteristics make the product suitable for both manual installation and automated assembly processes, with controlled and repeatable tightening torque.
Fields of application
Kilton thread-cutting screws for pre-painted holes are intended for applications where metal components must be fastened without prior paint removal and without introducing additional processing steps.
They are particularly suitable for:
• pre-painted panels and sheet metal;
• light metal structures;
• housings, enclosures, and metal covers;
• cold-formed profiles and components for industrial metal fabrication.
The ability to achieve a mechanically stable fastening and, when required, electrical continuity makes these screws an effective solution for improving assembly efficiency and reducing overall process time and operating costs.
