Spring maker Mollificio Codega celebrates 100 years: tradition and innovation since 1925

Spring maker Mollificio Codega celebrates 100 years: tradition and innovation since 1925

Reaching a century of activity is more than just a milestone. It’s a journey fueled by passion, intuition, and the ability to evolve with the times. In 2025, the historic Italian company Mollificio Luigi Codega celebrates 100 years of excellence in spring manufacturing, an anniversary marked by an eye on the future and a heart firmly rooted in the values passed down by its founder.

One step at a time, one spring after another

The journey began in 1925, when Cavaliere Luigi Codega founded the company, driven by a deep passion for technical innovation and entrepreneurial insight: "In the early days, our growth was closely linked to the booming of the cycling and motorcycling industries. Our grandfather threw himself into those sectors with enthusiasm, always looking for technical and innovative solutions," recalls Luigi Codega, grandson of the founder and current owner. "The real challenge was to stay one step ahead of the market, be able to anticipate where it was headed, and follow through."

Over the years, the company also expanded into other sectors, registering numerous patents that marked turning points in its developments. "These patents were designed to simplify and automate specific manufacturing processes that were gaining traction at the time," Codega explains. "For example, the automatic production of spiral springs and flat-section springs, which were later used in locking mechanisms and military applications."

A broad and diversified production

Today, Mollificio Codega manufactures a wide range of springs and metal parts from strip and wire, with diameter ranging from Ø 0.10 mm to Ø 24 mm. These products are used across multiple industries, including agriculture and aerospace. The company works with a variety of materials, such as: carbon steel, stainless steel, pre-tempered Cr.Si., superalloys (such as Inconel and Nimonic), bronze, and titanium. The product range includes:

- Compression springs
- Extension springs
- Torsion and double torsion springs (new addition)
- Shaped springs

The ability to meet even the most specific customer requirements has become one of the company’s key strengths, blending craftsmanship with advanced digital technologies.

“New electronic machines make it easier to produce small batches, which our clients often use for special production runs or prototypes,” explains Codega. “This allows us to maintain a handcrafted touch.” At the same time, the company has embraced digitalization and automation solutions to keep pace with an increasingly dynamic market and growing demand for customized components.

One hundred years is just the starting point

Looking ahead, the ability to innovate remains key to navigating the complexities of an increasingly competitive and globalized market.

"The challenge is to remain competitive in the European market," Codega observes. To celebrate this historic milestone, an event with stakeholders and collaborators is being planned, although—as he points out—"nothing has been finalized yet."

Expometals would like to congratulate Mollificio Luigi Codega on this important achievement and wishes the company and its entire team another hundred years of success and more!
