Mollificio Modenese upgrades production for efficiency, safety, and sustainability 5.0

The Italy-based Mollificio Modenese specializes in the production of precision springs for industrial applications. The company continues its growth path with a major technological and energy sustainability renewal plan, perfectly aligned with the goals of Industry 5.0.
A completely new production line
Over a 16-month period, the company replaced three core machines, finalizing the renewal of a complete production line. The new installations include an Iles electric furnace (2025), a next-generation OMD grinder (2025), and an OMD coiling machine (2024), replacing models that dated back to the late 1990s.
“The machines were no longer exactly young, even though they were still in perfect condition,” says Matteo Cionini, Chief Executive Officer of the company. “We took the opportunity to completely renew a production line, allowing us to meet the 5.0 parameters.”
The new grinder is designed for the simultaneous processing of both ends of cylindrical or conical compression springs. It features digital wheel positioning and automatic wear compensation to ensure dimensional consistency and reduce inspection phases. The separate cooling system for the grinding wheel and the grinding chamber, combined with quick repositioning after wheel change, allows for a drastic reduction in setup time and an extended service life of the components.
The recently installed CNC coiling machine allows fast switching between right-hand and left-hand coiling and guarantees high precision and repeatability of movements thanks to independent motors on each axis. It handles wires from 1.5 to 6 mm and springs up to 90 mm in outer diameter, with feed speeds up to 150 meters per minute. Automatic spring parameter control and an integrated camera for length verification ensure production continuity and reduce waste.
Finally, the new electric furnace, equipped with reinforced insulation, significantly reduces energy consumption while improving heat distribution and operational safety.
Investments driven by 5.0 incentives
As the company’s management highlights, the decision to upgrade the production line stemmed from the desire to fully leverage public incentives connected to the Transition 5.0 program.
“We took full advantage of all the 5.0-related incentives available for technological upgrades,” explains Cionini. This strategic choice made it possible to accelerate the company’s path toward digitalization, energy efficiency, and workplace safety, achieving tangible results in terms of productivity and sustainability.
Clean energy and production autonomy
As part of the same investment plan, Mollificio Modenese has installed a 30 kW photovoltaic system, bringing its total power capacity to 70 kW. This expansion, supported by 5.0 incentives, will ensure near energy self-sufficiency and will become part of the Renewable Energy Community “Energie Modenesi”.
With this series of initiatives, the company strengthens its position as a true 5.0 enterprise - efficient, safe, and sustainable. Looking ahead to its participation in MECSPE 2026, Mollificio Modenese faces the future with a clear vision: combining mechanical tradition and technological innovation in the service of its customers.
