Mollificio Romagnoli invests in rapid prototyping and 3D simulations

Since 1952, Mollificio Romagnoli has been manufacturing industrial springs, supporting its customers from the initial design and development phase of the component through full-scale production and finishing.
As part of its ongoing commitment to continuous process improvement,, the company has recently invested in an industrial 3D printer, integrating rapid prototyping directly into its technical workflow.
3D printing supporting spring design
The investment involves a latest-generation FDM 3D printer with a build volume of 256 × 256 × 256 mm and a high-speed system capable of reaching up to 500 mm/s. The machine supports a wide range of technical materials, including reinforced polymers, enabling the rapid production of tooling, fixtures, and functional models with good dimensional accuracy.
The introduction of additive manufacturing now makes it possible to produce in-house:
- dedicated tooling for assembly and production
- fixtures for dimensional inspection of components
- simulations of spring housings
- real-world clearance and interference tests
The ability to develop technical components in short lead times allows early verification of proper spring integration into the final system, reducing the risk of late-stage design changes.
Reduced lead times, greater precision, fewer errors
The adoption of 3D printing has delivered tangible benefits both internally and for customers. The ability to quickly produce tooling, fixtures, and validation models shortens development time and makes the sampling phase more efficient.
Assembly simulations and dimensional checks help identify potential issues before final production. This limits late-stage modifications and rework, while also improving technical communication with customers, who can more clearly evaluate how the spring integrates into their system. Rapid prototyping thus becomes a strategic tool for enhancing both process efficiency and overall product quality.
An investment aligned with the company vision
The introduction of 3D printing is part of a broader technological evolution that in recent years has involved several company departments, with the goal of ensuring increasingly high quality standards.
Alongside investments in technology and quality control, the company also pays close attention to internal training and workplace safety. A cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLSD) course was recently organized for employees in collaboration with the Salvagente association, and an AED will be installed on site, making the facility heart-safe.
This commitment confirms a vision focused on continuous improvement, both technically and organizationally.
The Mollificio Romagnoli team is available for technical consultations and preliminary assessments to develop new components or optimize the integration of technical springs into specific projects. Contact the company for more information or to submit your project to the technical department.
