The evolution of UV coatings in the wire industry

In recent years, Lubrimetal has taken a decisive step forward by developing the application of UV-curable coatings on metal wires. Although such coatings were already widely used in other industries, they were not suitable for application on metal wire. The main challenges were the lack of coatings that were sufficiently flexible, efficient, and durable, as well as the absence of an application process compatible with metal wire production lines.

The UVIOL LM range and the Lubrimetal patent

Thanks to an intensive development effort, the Lubrimetal team successfully overcame these limitations, creating the UVIOL LM range, complex liquid polymer systems specifically designed to ensure high adhesion to metal substrates.

In 2023, this innovation path led to the filing of a patent combining UVIOL LM coatings with a proprietary application process. The result is a highly efficient production technology that allows the application of flexible, decorative and protective polymer coatings on metal wires.

Performance, sustainability, and application flexibility

Lubrimetal’s “UV technology” stands out for its simple plug-and-play application, virtually instantaneous crosslinking polymerization of the surface coating, and excellent adhesion on various types of metal surfaces. The process is also sustainability-oriented, thanks to reduced energy consumption and the use of more environmentally friendly, VOC-free (volatile organic compounds) materials compared to traditional coatings.

From a performance standpoint, UVIOL LM coatings offer outstanding resistance to corrosion (high salt spray resistance), bending, torsion, and scratching. Their versatility makes them suitable both as an alternative to conventional coatings such as painting, plastic coating, and galvanizing. UVIOL LM coatings can also be applied to pre-galvanized wires, performing both a decorative and protective function.
