FIMIGroup: heavy-gauge processing and innovation in cutting technology

FIMIGroup: heavy-gauge processing and innovation in cutting technology

From the 32 mm cut-to-length line for JSW Steel to the new e-Flytronic flying shear: two examples of FIMIGroup's technological advancements in coil processing.

From 20 to 23 October 2026, FIMIGroup will participate in EuroBLECH in Hannover, presenting some of its latest developments in metal coil processing technology. The spotlight will be on two projects highlighting different aspects of the Group's engineering expertise: a heavy-gauge levelling and cut-to-length line for JSW Steel in India and the innovative e-Flytronic flying-shear drive technology.

A 32 mm heavy-gauge cut-to-length line for JSW Steel

FIMIGroup is currently manufacturing one of the world's largest heavy gauge cut-to-length lines for JSW Steel, designed to meet the demanding requirements of thick steel processing.

The line will process steel up to 32 mm (1.26") thick and 2,600 mm (102") wide, handling coils weighing up to 55 metric tons (60.6 US tons) and producing sheets up to 12 metres long.

The installation will incorporate FIMIGroup's patented TDDS® (Torque Dynamic Distribution System), developed to optimize torque distribution in levelling systems, together with an in-line ultrasonic inspection system for detecting internal material defects.

Scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2027, this project demonstrates FIMIGroup's engineering capabilities in developing customized solutions for particularly demanding industrial applications.

e-Flytronic: a new architecture for flying shears

Alongside large-scale processing projects, FIMIGroup continues to invest in technologies designed to improve production efficiency and equipment reliability.

The e-Flytronic flying shear introduces an innovative electromechanical drive architecture, replacing the conventional configuration based on a flywheel, belt transmission and hydraulic clutch.

The motor is activated according to the actual requirements of the cutting cycle through a dedicated transmission system. This solution is designed to reduce energy consumption, operating noise and the number of components subject to wear, while simplifying maintenance operations.

Already implemented in industrial applications, e-Flytronic represents a significant evolution in cutting technology, with a particular focus on operational efficiency and long-term reliability.
