World’s largest heavy gauge cut-to-length line

JSW Steel, one of the world’s leading steel producers, has selected FIMIGroup for the supply of two new Heavy Gauge Levelling and Cut-to-Length lines in India.

The order represents a major strategic investment aimed at strengthening JSW Steel’s processing capabilities in the heavy gauge segment and confirms FIMIGroup’s role as a trusted technology partner for global steel leaders.

The project includes the world’s largest Heavy Gauge Cut-to-Length line, designed to level and cut steel up to 32 mm (1.25”) thickness, with a maximum strip width of 2.600 mm (102”) and coil weights up to 55 (60.6) tons. In addition to these outstanding dimensions, the line will integrate in-line ultrasonic defect detection, ensuring high-quality output and enhanced process reliability for demanding applications.

Alongside this flagship installation, JSW Steel has also awarded FIMIGroup a second Cut-to-Length line capable of processing material up to 25.4 mm (1”) thickness, further expanding the customer’s finishing capacity and flexibility.

 Advanced levelling technology for high-performance processing

Both lines will be equipped with FIMI’s patented TDDS® (Torque Dynamic Distribution System), a technology already applied in several high-performance installations worldwide. This advanced system ensures optimal torque distribution across all levelling rolls. The result is improved surface quality, extended roll lifetime, reduced energy consumption, and the prevention of roll-to-strip sliding.

The project is currently in the engineering and design phase. Delivery of both lines is scheduled for the first half of 2027.
