Rizzi upgrades the Aperam plant with a new high-performance no-stop stacker

Rizzi has recently completed a significant revamping project at Aperam Stainless & Solutions Italy, in the operational plant of Massalengo (LO, Italy). Aperam is a global player in stainless, electrical and specialty steel as well as recycling and renewables, with customers in over 40 countries. The intervention involved replacing an obsolete mechanical no-stop stacker with a new-generation model, installed in record time and now fully operational on the cut to length line.
No-stop stacker: the top of Rizzi’s product range
The mechanical no-stop stacker with roller support has long been one of the flagship products of the Rizzi line, highly appreciated by service centers for its speed, versatility, and ease of operation. Its evolution—refined over time through contributions and feedback from end users—has made this system a benchmark for those processing high-quality materials and requiring continuous production.
A strategic intervention to optimize performance
At Aperam, the old stacker was becoming less reliable over time, resulting in some delays and higher-than-desired downtime. The new Rizzi stacker was installed inline with a machine stoppage of less than ten days, including dismantling of the existing structure, full installation, and commissioning.
The system now handles stainless-steel formats with thicknesses ranging from 0.50 mm to 3.00 mm and widths up to 1,550 mm, ensuring operational continuity and a significant reduction in downtime. Along with the mechanical assembly, the power unit of the stacker was completely renewed as well, ensuring high performance and greater long-term reliability.
Project Testimonials
“This upgrade reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and to strengthening the reliability and consistency of our service. The new stacker was integrated through a plug-and-play installation approach, minimizing downtime and ensuring no impact on our customers. The collaboration with Rizzi was conducted in alignment with our priorities: safe execution, operational continuity, and long-term process stability,” emphasize Roberto Chiesa and Andrea Lusetti, internal sponsors of the project at Aperam.
“The logistical optimization of stacking and packaging equipment plays an increasingly key role for our customers today, and we are extremely satisfied to see the Rizzi name emerging more and more as a strategic technical partner,” adds Guido Villa, Sales Manager at Rizzi.
Smoother production and guaranteed continuity
Thanks to the new system, Aperam has improved its efficiency with a stable and continuous production flow, eliminating stoppages. The intervention confirms the growing focus of service centers on modernizing stacking and packaging equipment, which has become increasingly strategic for efficiency and competitiveness, ensuring customers receive the best possible service.
