Carlo Salvi innovation: the new CS 663 LF header with linear feed

Carlo Salvi, a globally recognized company in the production of high-speed cold headers, introduces the CS 663 LF—an advanced evolution of the well-known CS 663 model. This 6-die progressive header is engineered to process wire up to 4 mm in diameter, achieving output rates of up to 400 parts per minute with a maximum forming force of 150 kN.
Linear feed for improved precision and reduced mechanical stress
The core innovation of the CS 663 LF lies in its new linear wire feeding system, which replaces traditional rollers with a dual-gripper setup—one fixed and one movable. This design ensures consistent and accurate wire positioning, minimizes mechanical wear, and enhances overall machine reliability. Cutting operations are managed electronically via an HMI interface, while gripper motion is mechanically controlled through cams. The system is fully compatible with the “Rapid Tool Exchange” feature, allowing for faster and more efficient tool change over.
Key technical specifications
• Number of stations: 6
• Wire diameter: 1.2–4 mm (up to 600 N/mm²)
• Maximum cut-off length: 35 mm
• Maximum head height: 8 mm
• Maximum shank length: 25 mm
• Maximum output: up to 400 parts/min
• Forming force: 150 kN
• Tool diameters: die Ø 34×40 mm, punch Ø 22×72 mm
• PKO stroke: 10 mm
Versatility and precision in one machine
The CS 663 LF is ideal for manufacturing complex parts such as bolts, screws, solid, semi-tubular, and fully tubular components. A trimming unit is integrated into the final two stations, enabling precise machining within the production cycle and eliminating the need for secondary processes. Main drive components operate via a toggle-action system, ensuring both speed and process control. Precision cutting guarantees a tolerance of ±0.05 mm, particularly valuable for high-volume production. The absence of a “wire stop” further reduces wear and extends component life during continuous operation.
Retrofit options available
The linear feed system can also be retrofitted on existing CS 663 models, offering a cost-effective upgrade without having to replace the entire machine.
