42-meter Smart Rolling Line for self-drilling anchor bars: new milestone achieved by EVIRT Italia

EVIRT Italia strengthens its international presence with the supply and commissioning of a 42-meter Smart Rolling Line designed for the automatic production of self-drilling anchor bars (SDA) at Minova Global – Tooele, Utah (USA).

The project is one of the most advanced lines in the sector, thanks to the integration of precision mechanics, intelligent automation, proprietary software, and digital process control, capable of redefining productivity and quality standards in the mining and tunneling industries.

A custom line for high performance

Designed and entirely built by the EVIRT Italia team, the line automatically manages all production stages: feeding, rolling, cutting, double chamfering, and orderly stacking.

Thanks to a single control system — EVIRT Easy HMI 4.0 — the line ensures productivity of up to 700 bars per shift, a surface finish of Ra < 0.4 µm, and high process repeatability, eliminating the need for further grinding operations.

The automatic line is currently also used for the production of intermittently threaded bars supplied to leading global manufacturers of self-drilling anchor bars and dynamic bolts, including Minova, Normet, Sandvik Mining, and Epiroc.

The line core: the Smart Radial 50 Synchro Evo NC

At the core of the line is the Smart Radial 50 Synchro Evo NC rolling machine — a highly rigid structure designed through FEM analysis and equipped with three servo-controlled spindles for precise tool synchronization.

This configuration ensures greater process stability and consistent quality even when processing high-strength materials, while significantly extending tool life.

• Rolling force: 60 tons (600 kN)
• Installed power: 58 kW
• Machine weight: > 19,000 kg

Total automation managed through intelligent control

The entire line is operated by an integrated Industry 4.0 supervision system that manages in real time all operations of loading, rolling, unloading, cutting, double-end chamfering of threaded bars, and robotic palletizing.
