The future of sheet metal and tube cutting live in Worcester

The future of sheet metal and tube cutting live in Worcester

Metal fabrication professionals across Europe are invited to save the date for a standout industry event. From 20 to 22 May 2025, Yamazaki Mazak will open the doors of its European Technology Centre and Manufacturing Plant in Worcester, UK, for the European Laser Event—a three-day open house offering live demonstrations of Mazak’s full suite of integrated laser solutions.

15 kW OPTIPLEX 3015 NEO

One of the highlights will be the powerful 15 kW variant of the OPTIPLEX 3015 NEO 2D laser processing machine. Engineered for high-speed processing of various materials up to 40 mm thick, the machine incorporates intelligent functions to reduce manual intervention, while the Beam Shaping Technology dynamically controls power density for optimized cutting speed and quality. Its compact design, combined with enhanced front and side door access, ensures easy integration into existing production environments.

FT-150 NEO

On the tube cutting side, the FT-150 NEO will take center stage. Designed for high-speed, high-precision cutting of small-diameter pipes and profiles (up to Ø152 mm), the FT-150 NEO offers fully automated functionality—including loading, drilling, tapping, chamfering, flow drill® and unloading—all managed through Mazak’s unique U-axis system. By consolidating multiple steps into a single unit, the FT150 NEO significantly reduces secondary processing  and boosts overall productivity.

Mazak’s automation investments: inside the smart manufacturing cell

For the first time, visitors will have the opportunity to explore Mazak’s newly upgraded Sheet Metal Department, now transformed into a live showroom showcasing the latest in laser and automation technology. The centerpiece are the two automation systems composed of: OPTITPLEX 3015 Ez, CST automated storage and SMC, with the new Mazak intelligent sorting. This setup has cut power use by 67% and boosted productivity with extended unmanned shifts, offering visitors a real-world look at automation in action.

These innovations represent more than technical upgrades—they reflect broader trends in European fabrication, as noted by Gaetano Lo Guzzo, Director of Laser Business Europe at Mazak:

“There is a tangible level of energy and dynamism with the European laser market, fuelled by the productivity improvements that can be realized through the latest advances in laser cutting and automation technology. We have seen the impact first-hand at our European Manufacturing plant and we are excited to share these insights, along with the ultimate showcase of laser technology, all under one roof at our upcoming event. I would urge potential attendees to register their interest quickly as places are limited.”

Press brakes, CAD/CAM, and gas systems under the spotlight

In addition to Mazak’s latest machines, the European Laser Event will feature complementary key technologies that support the wider metal fabrication process, including:

• press brake automation and tooling strategies
• CAD/CAM programming for lasers • gas mix optimization for or enhanced cutting quality and cost efficiency
