Two new STAHL robots mark a new stage in Officine MTM’s modernization

Officine MTM continues to push the boundaries of innovation in slitting automation with the installation of two new STAHL circular robots, confirming its commitment to high-performance solutions and continuous modernization. These installations—one in the USA and one in Italy—are part of a wider transformation that also includes the launch of the company’s new corporate website, designed to support an increasingly international audience.

New automation for higher precision and efficiency

The latest additions to Officine MTM’s portfolio are two STAHL (Slitter Tool Automatic Handling Loader) robots, both designed for slitter tooling with 380 mm knives. These systems reflect the company’s long-standing focus on improving productivity, safety, and precision in coil processing operations.

The first robot, destined for the United States, will operate on an existing slitter line used by a major international automotive group. Equipped with one column and three carousels over seven levels, it can store up to 44 meters of tools using 300 and 400 mm pins. The unit also includes a washing station for two 400 mm pins, a knife measuring station, a CCTV camera system, a DPM tool identification system, and seamless integration with ERP and MES platforms.

The second STAHL robot will be installed in Italy for a long-time customer—one of the first companies to adopt Officine MTM automation back in 2016. Now, almost a decade later, the same customer is investing in a new-generation STAHL robot for its brand-new facility, which includes a new slitter and coil packing line. This system features one column, three carousels, and nine levels, offering a total storage capacity of 56 meters of tools. It is also equipped with a washing station (four pins, 400 mm long), CCTV system, DPM identification, and full ERP/MES connectivity.

Engineering innovation behind every detail

Both robots incorporate several new mechanical and software features developed by Officine MTM’s engineering team. A compact rotating configuration allows for more precise and faster slitter tool setup, while improved mechanical design ensures more reliable tool picking.

Supporting stations have also evolved. The new washing machine reduces cleaning time and achieves superior results, while the new measuring unit identifies knife-edge imperfections with higher accuracy. Software upgrades further optimize loading times and knife utilization, ensuring consistent process efficiency and longer tool life.

In other words, mechanical excellence is combined with advanced digital control, resulting in safer, faster, and more reliable production cycles.

The deployment of these robots is part of a broader modernization and international growth plan. Alongside investments in production technologies, Officine MTM has recently launched its new corporate website.
