MT AVIO: resistance welding for aviation applications

In aircraft manufacturing, welding quality must meet stringent requirements for repeatability, process control, and parameter traceability. For these demanding applications, CEMSA International offers MT AVIO, a resistance welding machine engineered to handle complex operations involving the materials and thicknesses commonly used in aircraft components.
Equipped with the latest generation of medium-frequency power supplies, MT AVIO can deliver welding currents of up to 150 kA, combining high power with the precise parameter control required for aviation resistance welding.
Process control in accordance with aviation industry standards
Aircraft component manufacturing requires compliance with specific standards, including MIL-SPEC and AWS D17, which establish requirements for joint characteristics and the destructive testing used to verify weld quality. Specifications can vary according to the component, its final application, and its position within the aircraft.
For this reason, welding parameter recording and traceability play a key role in process control. Particular attention is given to out-of-spec values, which can be displayed graphically to monitor process trends and quickly identify deviations from the defined welding parameters.
High structural rigidity for complex configurations
MT AVIO machines can weigh up to 7 tons and can be configured with compact lower arms designed to reach inside cylindrical components. The structure is engineered to withstand forces of up to 3,000 daN while maintaining extremely low deflection, helping preserve weld spot geometry and consistent joint quality.
The “FRICTIONLESS” welding head guide system provides smooth travel, while the rigidity of the overall assembly helps prevent unwanted deflection or rotation during the welding cycle. This is particularly important in demanding resistance welding operations, where movement under load could affect the geometry and quality of the weld spot.
From aluminum to titanium: resistance welding of critical materials
MT AVIO is designed to process thicknesses ranging from 1 + 1 mm to 4 + 4 mm and can be used with aviation materials including Inconel, titanium, aluminum, and their alloys.
Aluminum, in particular, is among the most demanding materials from a resistance welding perspective. MT AVIO combines high welding currents with controlled process parameters to address the specific requirements associated with these materials and their use in aviation production.
Meet CEMSA at EuroBLECH
CEMSA will be exhibiting at the next edition of EuroBLECH, the international trade fair dedicated to sheet metal working technologies. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the corporate team and learn more about its resistance welding technologies for aviation and other demanding industrial applications.
Meet CEMSA in Hannover from October 20 to 23 at booth 27-H174 to discuss your resistance welding requirements.
