Continuus-Properzi: Megalogos wire drawing machines

Continuus-Properzi is known throughout the world for its continuous casting & rolling lines for the production of nonferrous wire rod. However, the Wire Machinery Division also provides leading-edge technology for ferrous wire drawing applications.

The Megalogos line, available with capstan sizes ranging from 560 to 1270 mm, consists of horizontal axis, non-slip, multi-pass, drawing machines specifically engineered for high-carbon steel and PC wire. Megalogos machines provide numerous benefits to the end user from an operational, maintenance and safety perspective, such as:

- pre-aligned modular frame for easier installation;

- ease of maintenance (no need to crawl under the machine, which may be necessary for vertical axis machines);

- ergonomic horizontal axis design, which ensures operator safety during string-up;

- highly-efficient cooling system, based on Properzi’s wide experience in casting & rolling lines, which increases the capacity and efficiency of heat removal while protecting the capstans against corrosion and mineral build-up;

- increased life of drawing capstans (62 HRC induction-heated forged steel);
epicyclic gear train and mechanical coupling, which provide higher efficiency and lower maintenance.

Innovation is an integral part of Continuus-Properzi’s DNA, and it is not just limited to the design of the company’s equipment. Over the last year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Field Service Engineers were unable to carry out on-site commissioning activities. And that’s where the innovative spirit of Continuus-Properzi quickly kicked in! The company developed and implemented a way to perform commissioning activities remotely by making use of the latest connectivity technologies: Properzi’s “Smart e-Commissioning”! This method allows the commissioning team to work remotely in real time, leading, supporting, and supervising the activities of the customer’s on-site personnel.

In addition to the hardware package for Smart e-Commissioning activities, Properzi lines are equipped with the IULIUS 4.0 system to meet the growing demands of Industry 4.0. The automation architecture is designed to provide a modular infrastructure, one that is open to future development and implementation of new functions in order to support the transformation of customers’ factories into fully digitalized factories.
