The role of ultrasonic degreasing in wire and cable production

The role of ultrasonic degreasing in wire and cable production

MFL Group has recently acquired Coseco’s IP rights and has thus expanded its portfolio by introducing wire treatment lines, including advanced ultrasonic degreasing lines.

These specialized plants play a pivotal role in addressing the critical requirement of eliminating lubricants utilized during wire processing to mitigate wire and cable friction. This becomes essential either before subsequent stages of wire processing or upon completing the production cycle.

Ultrasonic degreasing harnesses the power of sound waves to agitate the cleaning solution, forming a myriad of tiny vacuum bubbles that contract and expand, leading to subsequent implosions. This process, known as cavitation, generates high pressures, elevated temperatures, and liquid jets up to 500 km/h, resulting in the effective removal of contaminants from the surface. Lubrication residues such as oil or grease, soaps, stearates, or dust are eradicated, and pollutant particles are dispersed in the cleaning liquid (preventing their re-adhesion to the cleaned material), and ultimately… washed away.

Here are the key advantages of this technology:
Precision in cleaning - the cavitation bubbles reach every part of the wire surface, ensuring no area remains contaminated. Due to the inherent nature of ultrasonics, the removed contaminants are dispersed in the solution, mitigating the risk of reattachment to the object—a concern in simple immersion cleaning processes.

Rapid and scalable cleaning process (handling multiple wires simultaneously) - crucial for in-line cleaning phases, especially in high-speed wire production. The ultrasonic cleaner’s capability to manage multiple wires concurrently enhances overall efficiency.

Versatility in applications - ultrasonic cleaning excels in removing tightly bonded contaminants from various surfaces and demonstrates compatibility with a diverse range of materials.

Last but not least, MFL Group degreasing plants can be personalized and integrated with the company’s take-ups and pay-offs.
