Barni’s journey between innovation and responsibility at Tube Düsseldorf

With the publication of its Sustainability Report, Barni takes a decisive step toward integrating ESG criteria into its industrial model. The document represents the company’s first voluntary reporting and defines a clear framework of data and guidelines that strengthen Barni’s position as a technological reference for the mechanical engineering industry.
Active for decades in the design and manufacturing of special machines and systems for tube handling and coil painting, Barni initiated a strategic path in 2024 aimed at responsible growth, combining industrial performance with environmental impact reduction.
An ESG approach aligned with metalworking
For Barni, sustainability is an operational tool. The company has adopted the VSME standard (Voluntary Standard for non-listed Micro-, Small-, and Medium-sized Enterprises), which is particularly suitable for SMEs to ensure comparability and concreteness in reporting.
The strategic sustainability plan identifies some key priorities:
• governance and corporate conduct, with clear organizational structures and certified systems (ISO 9001);
• the centrality of people, valued as a technical and competitive asset;
• attention to direct environmental impacts, with initial structured monitoring of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Measuring environmental impact to improve
In 2024, Barni began analyzing its Scope 2 emissions, related to electricity consumption and district heating, according to the GHG Protocol methodologies. Monitoring serves as the basis for future energy efficiency actions, including the progressive conversion of lighting to LED technology; evaluation of electricity supplies from certified renewable sources; and optimization of consumption in the Morbegno (SO) production plants.
At the same time, the company analyzed its supply chain, highlighting a strong local component: about 70% of suppliers are located within 150 km of the headquarters, with direct benefits on logistics and indirect emissions.
People, safety, and transparency
The Sustainability Report also highlights a solid social framework: in 2024, Barni employed 55 people, all contracted under the Italian metalworking collective bargaining agreement, with a high percentage of permanent contracts and no workplace accidents.
Special attention is given to organizational well-being, through internal surveys on corporate climate and sustainability, and welfare initiatives.
The Code of Ethics has been updated and formally integrated with ESG principles in 2025.
On the governance front, Barni confirms a model based on clear roles, defined responsibilities, and strategic partnerships, fundamental elements for ensuring long-term reliability.
