Inside Candor Sweden AB’s custom wastewater plant

Candor Sweden AB, a specialist in surface treatment technologies for the wire and tube industries, has engineered a fully automated wastewater treatment plant designed to ensure compliant discharge, optimize chemical usage, and reduce environmental impact.
This in-depth video demonstrates each process stage, showing how wastewater from plating or cleaning lines is treated through a combination of mechanical separation, chemical dosing, and filtration—fully integrated into a compact, modular system.
A tour of a Candor’s wastewater treatment plant
1. Continuous treatment of rinse water
The process begins with the collection of rinse water from production lines. This water may contain varying levels of metal ions and chemical residues. The plant allows for continuous treatment or batch mode, depending on the application, with optional bleeding of concentrated chemistry when needed.
2. Automated chemical dosing and pH control
To initiate the treatment process, pH is adjusted automatically using sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). A precipitation additive (CANDOFloc) and coagulants are introduced into the stream to promote the formation of flocs, which help bind and separate contaminants from the water.
3. Settling and reaction chambers
The reaction tanks are precisely sized to ensure optimal residence time and process control. Multiple chambers with different pH values enable phased reactions, improving efficiency. This step is crucial to guarantee stable sedimentation downstream.
4. Lamella clarifier and filtration
Solid particles settle inside a lamella clarifier. Clarified water rises to the top and is sent for final polishing. In this specific system, the final stage includes a sand filter that removes remaining suspended solids, ensuring high-quality treated water.
5. Sludge management and filter press
Sludge is collected in a conical-bottom tank where it thickens before being sent to the filter press. The press dewaters the sludge, producing dry cakes that are easier and more cost-effective to dispose of.
Smart engineering and integration flexibility
One of the key strengths of Candor’s wastewater systems is their adaptability. The system can be tailored to fit existing plant layouts, including space-constrained areas or retrofit projects. Its modularity makes it suitable both for new installations and upgrades of older facilities.
In addition, the compact design allows for easy transportation and quick on-site setup. The use of industrial-grade sensors and automatic control reduces operator intervention and ensures consistent treatment quality—even under variable production conditions.
Engineering and sustainability in one compact unit
Every Candor system is built in-house and tested before delivery. With ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification, the company ensures both technical precision and environmental responsibility. The solution shown here is just one example of how Candor helps manufacturers reduce emissions, streamline operations, and meet compliance targets.
