Drying systems for electroplating plants: custom solutions by OMIG

The drying phase in electroplating processes is a key quality-control step. Ineffective drying can compromise coating appearance, cause surface defects, and unnecessarily extend cycle times. For this reason, OMIG designs and builds customized drying systems engineered to integrate seamlessly into electroplating lines.

Drying as a strategic phase of the electroplating process

The purpose of the drying phase is to completely remove residual moisture after treatment, preserving the integrity of the plating and ensuring consistent results. OMIG’s engineering approach combines pre-drying technologies with optimized ovens, reducing energy consumption, thermal stress on parts, and the risk of defects.

Dynamic air blowing for rack plating lines

In rack plating systems, drying is preceded by dynamic air-blowing units developed in-house by OMIG. These systems ensure effective water removal even on complex geometries, thanks to independent air manifolds with adjustable and programmable airflow tailored to the specific product.

Targeted air blowing significantly reduces the amount of moisture entering the drying furnace, allowing the use of hot-air recirculation systems operating at temperatures approximately 10–15 °C lower than conventional solutions.

The benefits are concrete and measurable:

• reduced overall energy consumption;

• lower thermal stress on delicate components or parts with tight tolerances;

• elimination of condensation and the “steam bath” effect, which can affect coating adhesion and appearance.

Hydroextractors for barrel plating lines

For barrel plating systems used for small parts and fasteners, OMIG manufactures hydroextractors designed to use centrifugal force to quickly remove water from treated components.

The baskets are customized according to part material and size, while cycle management allows different speeds, inclinations, and repetitions to be set. This ensures uniform and controlled drying, even for mixed batches.

OMIG hydroextractors can be integrated directly in-line or operated in semi-automatic mode, adapting to different production setups. Their robust construction and operating flexibility also make these centrifuges suitable for additional applications such as degreasing, sealant application, or surface protective treatments.
