4 reasons why nanofiber media is set to become the new filtration gold standard

4 reasons why nanofiber media is set to become the new filtration gold standard

In this article, filtration expert SO.TEC Srl will share with us how nanofiber filter media can increase the efficiency and durability of dedusting and fume extraction systems.

But let's go in order, what are nanofiber filter media?
They are a type of filter made from a synthetic polymer fiber, typically smaller than 200 nanometers and commonly less than 100 nanometers in diameter. In particular, the nanofiber is applied through a spraying process on top of a filter medium. Simply put, the nanofiber creates a thin screen that accumulates dust on the surface while preventing it from seeping into the filter, improving its filtration, efficiency, and cleaning properties.

Depending on the needs of your facility, the type of dust being handled, and other application variables, the use of nanofiber filter media can be a winning choice. Here are the key benefits.

1. Easier cleaning — cleaning dust off the filter surface is quicker and easier than having to push it out of the depth of the filter media. This reduces operating costs and increases system efficiency.

2. Smaller dust collectors — dust collector sizing is based on the amount and dimensions of dust particles, as well as airflow. With easier-to-clean filters, you can get more airflow per cartridge and reduce the size of the dust collectors.

3. Energy Savings — the use of an inverter allows you to maintain a constant airflow, which results in lower system operating costs.

4. Reduced maintenance — when filter cleaning is easier and pressure drop remains lower and more consistent, you get filters that last longer: fewer filters to purchase, less disposal costs.

Nederman's new MCP dust collector, like most similar systems on the market, uses cartridge filters. The cartridge media are now replaced by the new Type 178 cartridge made of paper mixed with nanofiber.
Type 178 media can be used in many systems and devices, such as Nederman's stationary dust and fume extraction MCP, FMC, LCP, MJC, MJC Mini and SiloSafe, as well as on SO.TEC FilterBox and FIlterCart mobile dust collectors and fume extractors.

In the future, it is likely that nanofiber will become even smaller. This would allow, for example, even better surface loading, even easier cleaning, and higher particle collection efficiency.
