Free-cutting steel round, square, hexagonal bars and special profiles

Free-cutting steel round, square, hexagonal bars and special profiles

Rodacciai supplies rounds, squares, hexagons and special profiles in free-cutting steels.
Also known as high-speed machining steels, they are commonly used in many mass production fields, such as the automotive and white goods industries. Free-cutting steels contain sulfur and other elements such as tellurium, bismuth and lead, which promote machinability and consequently make them suitable for high productivity machining.

The range is divided as follows:

Not intended for heat treatment

Designed for use without further treatment, with high machinability and low carbon content. According to processing requirements, a wide range of steels is available, with added sulfur (for greater machinability), lead (greater chip removal productivity), with sulfur content, etc.

Carburized
The surface layer is hardened by carburizing or other thermochemical treatments, thus increasing machinability. They can be supplied with silicon to guarantee the uniformity of the austenitic grain, or with manganese sulfur. They have a reduced percentage of sulfur and allow good hardening after carburizing.

Quenching and tempering
Steels with a high carbon content that maintain good machinability thanks to the presence of sulfur in smaller quantities. This type of steel can be quenched and tempered before drawing or peeling, so that the pieces can be subject to heat treatments after machining. When quenched and tempered, they have high mechanical properties and are therefore suitable for those applications where a better resistance and toughness are required compared to untreated steels.
