Eurospecial: "Flat dies for automotive bolts, we haven’t been hit by the crisis"

We take stock of 2020 with Matteo Casiraghi of Eurospecial srl. The Italian company has decades of experience in the field of precision mechanics, and in particular in the fabrication of flat thread rolling dies, marking punches, dies, and wire forming equipment.

How is this particular and delicate period of time going?
On and off. Workloads are intermittent and come in waves. Before the holiday season, everything became urgent! But that's typical of that time of year. In general, we're used to working headlong and not complaining.

How did the rest of 2020 play out?
Aside from the devastating two-three months in spring, around July we were able to almost reach 2019 numbers. In September there was another positive spike, then the trend was up and down to current levels. Although we ended the year with a minus sign, we decided not to give up and stick to our philosophy, placing part of our turnover in investments for the future of the company.

What do these investments actually consist in?
They are all about a new grinding machine for pointed dies threading that is going to arrive soon, at the beginning of 2021. Over the last two years, we have been focusing a lot of our efforts in this area. As you know, these are screws used in automobile chassis manufacturing.

How important is the automotive industry for Eurospecial?
98% of our production revolves around automotive fasteners.

Wasn't there an automotive crisis?
I wonder about that, too! Actually, there has been a lot of demand for this type of flat thread rolling dies lately.

Who are your customers, and where are they?
To begin with, they are the three major Italian manufacturers of screws and bolts. Then, we have customers in France, Germany, the United States...

Have you managed to maintain your export quota?
Yes, even to the United States: there has been little decline. It accounts for roughly 20% of our production.

Where are your competitors located?
Mainly in Italy. What makes us stand out is our flexibility in processing and deliveries. Of course, we also grant high quality standards.

Would you have been among the exhibitors at the Fastener Fair Italy?
Yes. However, it has been postponed several times because of the Covid-19 pandemic developments. The next event on our calendar is the Stuttgart edition.

Are you planning to go?
The fair is scheduled for November, we hope so.

We all hope so!
