Matteo Casiraghi on Eurospecial advances in fastener tooling

Eurospecial is a reference manufacturer of cold heading and form rolling tooling, thread rolling dies for screws and bolts, fastener tooling, steel forming dies, marking punches, as well as turning, regrinding, and external grinding services.

The company was founded in 1997 by Ambrogio Casiraghi with Eugenio Tentori and Carlo Vergani. Today it is led by CEO Matteo Casiraghi, who started in production and advanced into his current leadership role.

How did your time in production development contribute to your professional growth?

Working as production manager was essential. It allowed me to learn every detail of our products and the processes behind their quality. Every forming tool is custom-designed by our technical team together with the customer. Step-by-step involvement in production is always a chance to improve.

Now that you have a wider perspective, what matters most in the relationship between customers and suppliers?

Since taking on the roles of sales manager and CEO, I’ve realized that—beyond product and service quality—the key is trust. In screw and bolt production, where process continuity is crucial, tools must deliver stable and predictable performance. This makes the relationship with customers and suppliers a genuine exchange of expertise: transparency on materials, lead times, testing, and production feedback is essential. Ultimately, it’s the human element that builds long-term partnerships.

How central is technological innovation in the cold heading sector? And what are the latest advances at Eurospecial?

Innovation is part of our daily work. This year we completed a major upgrade of our production infrastructure, moving into a new 3600 m² facility with integrated systems for fluid and machine tool management.

Our 4.0-certified wastewater filtration system can handle up to 50,000 liters of emulsion, improving separation of machining residues and stabilizing processes. We also added a centralized system for fluid suction and management, giving us tighter control of operating conditions.

A distinctive feature is the underground tunnel system beneath the production area, which frees up machine-side space, streamlines flow, and improves safety. This project was made possible thanks to highly skilled suppliers who supported all installation phases.

How valuable are industry events for Eurospecial?

Trade fairs and technical conferences for the fastener and cold forming industry—where UPIVEB plays a key role—remain essential for keeping connections active among machine builders, tool manufacturers, and forming companies. They’re also crucial for discussing technological developments in the sector.

We also value broader initiatives on a national level, such as the “Restanza Artigiana Giovani Imprenditori Confartigianato” event in Rome, which offered an opportunity to reflect on craftsmanship and the role of companies in their local communities.

How do you see the future of the industry and of Eurospecial?

The future of Italian industry, especially automotive-related sectors, is strongly affected by recent decisions of the European Community, which have reduced competitiveness. Italy has long been a reference for expertise and technology, yet in just a few years the sector has been weakened, enabling rapid growth of previously marginal manufacturers. Political decisions need direct dialogue with industry: the forced transition to electric vehicles has heavily impacted the supply chain. Reducing emissions is essential, but no single technological route should be imposed. This recurring cycle of activity and crisis is creating sustained pressure on many companies.

As for Eurospecial, I hope for a phase of growth despite the current context. We’re investing significantly and expanding into new markets to increase diversification. Until 2024 we focused mainly on Italy and Europe, but it’s now necessary to look beyond those borders to support future development.
