Bulgaria's biggest steel maker shuts down

Bulgaria's biggest steel maker shuts down. FOCUS News Agency Sofia. Gas deliveries for Bulgaria's biggest steelmaker Kremikovtzi were cut Friday morning, shutting down all coke and iron production, its energy official Nikolay Savov told national radio. Once the biggest steelmaker in the Balkans, the plant has seen several unsuccessful attempts to find an operator to run it until insolvency proceedings clear the way for its sale. "The definitive halt of gas deliveries began and will be completed by this afternoon," Savov said, cited by AFP. The state gas monopoly Bulgargaz had been delivering minimum gas supplies to Kremikovtzi to keep its production facilities operational but had warned the heavily indebted plant this week to prepare for a complete cut in deliveries.
