China opposes US anti-dumping probe on seamless steel pipes
China opposes US anti-dumping probe on seamless steel pipes. The United State's Commerce Department is launching an investigation on whether to impose anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imports of seamless steel pipes from China. The probe could lead to anti-dumping levies of nearly 100 percent. China Iron and Steel Association says exports of Chinese-made seamless steel pipes to the US has dropped and they will not harm US related industries. The association says it firmly opposes the US decision. It is now working with the Ministry of Commerce and Chinese iron and steel companies to prepare a counter plea. Wu Xinchun, Vice Secretary-General of China Iron & Steel Association said "China exported 345 thousand tons of steel pipes to the US from January to August this year. That's nearly 70 percent less than last year. The trade volume also declined by more than 60 percent. Under international rules, three criteria indicate dumping. First, price in the export market is lower than the domestic price. Second, price in the export target is lower than in a third-party country. Third, price is lower than the cost. But none of these criteria's exist."
