CANBERRA (Dow Jones)--Atlantic Ltd. (ATI.AU) said production of ferrovanadium and the first shipment of iron ore from the Windamurra vanadium project in Western Australia will be delayed until January.
The date was pushed back from the fourth quarter of 2011 after some "unexpected issues" arose during the commissioning process, according to a statement from the company that cites Managing Director Michael Minosora.
"A date of first iron-ore shipment awaits confirmation of volume and timing from our first customer (and) is anticipated during January," he said. Windimurra production is expected to meet about 7% of world demand for vanadium, which Atlantic estimates at 65,000 metric tons a year, suggesting mine output of about 4,500 tons a year. Vanadium is used mostly in light metal alloys.
