European debt crisis affects German steel industry

"German steel industry in an uncertain economic situation"
Hans Jürgen Kerkhoff, President of the German Steel Federation
Press Conference on 8 November 2011, Düsseldorf, Germany

Crude steel production in Germany will probably remain below the forecasts of 45.5 million tonnes, but the amount of 2010 of 43.8 million tonnes will be exceeded, according to Hans Jürgen Kerkhoff, President of the WV Stahl, the German Steel Association. Mr Kerkhoff, at a press conference in Düsseldorf, said a further escalation of the debt crisis in the EU should be avoided, to maintain solid prospects for the German steel market. The steel industry is experiencing the consequences of uncertainty in the market. The German Steel Federation President says he's unable to give an outlook for 2012 output.
