German Steel Association: crude steel production in April 2011. In Germany, 3.8 million tonnes of crude steel were produced in April. Compared to the same month last year, production fell by 1.7 percent. Thus, it's the first time the year-on-year comparison is negative since October 2009. Compared to the previous month, production increased after the elimination of seasonal effects by 2.5 percent. The production is still on an exceptionally high level. Moreover, it remains upward in the less volatile three-month comparison. In view of the orders improval of recent months, an expansion of production is expected for the second quarter.
