Germany. Crude steel production in March 2011. According to the German association Stahl-Zentrum, Germany produced in the past month 4 million tonnes of crude steel. Thus the very high level of the previous month was maintained. In the first quarter of 2011 the production was 11.4 million tonnes, reaching its highest value since summer 2008. In view of the recently improved order situation and the sweeping trend in the key customer industries, the crude steel production should continue going upwards, also in the second quarter of the year. Crude steel production, March 2011: 4.026 mt Change over previous month: 0,1% January - March 2011: 11.388 mt Change over same period of previous year: 4,2% February 2011 (vs. previous month) BOF: 2.517 mt (6,1%) Electrical steel: 1.180 mt (15,0%) Total crude steel: 3.697 mt (8,8%) Pig-iron: 2.312 mt (2,7%) Hot-rolled steel products: 3.224 mt (8,6%) of which flat: 2.162 mt (8,0%) of which long: 1.062 mt (9,9%) The organization Stahl-Zentrum, based in Duesseldorf, represents 99% of the German crude steel production, and also many European steel producers.
