Germany stops trade shows for four weeks

Trade fairs in Germany will be closed for four weeks from the beginning of November, says the official website of AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry.

This was agreed on October 28, 2020, by the German Chancellor and the heads of government of the German Länder, together with many other measures taken to contain the coronavirus diffusion.

The Managing Director of AUMA, Jörn Holtmeier emphasized that: "The German trade fair industry fundamentally respects the fact that many industries have to contribute to the present situation." The official statement reports that “it is very irritating that trade fairs are the only business-oriented events affected”, and “it is incomprehensible that exhibition centers are treated as leisure-oriented facilities."

AUMA expects that trade fairs will be excluded from the connection with leisure-oriented facilities and events at short notice, at the latest when the current resolutions will be reviewed in mid-November.
The AUMA Managing Director: "The German trade fair industry urgently needs planning security, also to ensure that its international importance is not damaged.” According to him, trade fairs should be equated to wholesale and retail trade because both take place in similarly structured rooms and have largely identical functions.

How will the consequences of the present federal decision impact the progress of the wire and Tube exhibitions, scheduled to take place in Düsseldorf on December 7 to 11? Let's wait and see.
