Iran close to self-sufficiency in steel

Iran close to self-sufficiency in steel, according to Industry minister. IranMania quoted Mr Ali-Akbar Mehrabian Iranian minister of industries and mines as saying that Iran has made huge strides in the steel industry which will help the country attain self-sufficiency in steel production within the next few months. Mr Ali-Akbar Mehrabian made the remarks at the inaugural ceremony of Vian steel complex in Hamedan province which has a production capacity of 550,000 tons of steel per year. The minister pointed out that Iran's steel production is set to increase from ten million tons to 17 million tonnes. He added that "Despite global recession in steel industry, Iran's steel production has shown a 20% increase.”
