Positive outlook for the world car market in 2017

The world passenger car market will grow by 2% to around 84 million units in 2017. It was told by Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), on the occasion of the VDA press conference in Detroit on Monday, January 9th. The Association expects a stable development for Western Europe with 14 million passenger cars - the same as in 2016. China will grow by 5% to 24.2 million units. The US market is expected to reach a similarly high volume (around 17.5 million passenger cars and light trucks) as in 2016. A particularly successful story is the one of the German car manufacturers in the US electromobility market, the second-largest in the world after China. One in five electric cars currently sold in the USA is a German brand.
The German global e-mobility initiative envisages to triple the offer of electric cars to around 100 models by the year 2020.
