Revision of REACH regulation to be postponed?

Exactly two years ago, the European Commission announced there would be a review of the chemicals legislation, the so-called REACH regulation, from the acronym of "Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals."

The proposed regulation revision was supposed to be presented as part of the "EU Strategy on Sustainable Chemicals" by the end of this year, but apparently there are growing calls to postpone the reform, which could be delayed to 2024. The reason for these pressures? To avoid further bureaucratic and economic charges for companies already suffering exorbitant energy commodity prices and changing market conditions.
While on the one hand, there are those who urge the Commission to keep its commitment and be wary of those who are instrumentalizing the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to maintain the status quo; on the other hand, there are also those, like the German Steel Association, who "look with concern at the upcoming review, which would result in serious additional costs for the entire sector."
The European legislation, which became effective in 2006, aims to regulate the production, trade, and use of chemicals throughout the Union, whether for industrial or everyday use - from lubricants for mechanical components to home cleaning products, to name a few. Its purpose is to "improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry."
Can people's health and industry competitiveness go hand in hand? And how? We will soon see.
