Time to take stock of 2012
Dear visitor of the portal,
I am writing to you to wish you a - hopefully - great 2013, and also to look over the work we did in 2012 to improve portal and its international visibility.
From 2000, when my office was still a garage and my Internet speed was 56k, to 2012, we have come a long way, yet there are still things to be done.
This year, however, was especially significant. After almost three years of research and development of the third release of the site (the current one), two days before the most important displaying event in the industry, wire and Tube Dusseldorf, we put the trial version online with the new domain expometals.net. Everything went the right way, they liked the platform at the show and the version change did not cause significant problems.
In the following months we were working to fix all the so-called physiological glitches that come up when you move a database of 45,000 pages to a new platform. We subsequently tested and optimised the layout and we started working on the optimisation of online pavilions, creating subcategories that more precisely address the user's search (this phase is still partly in development: the estimated time for completion is six months). In addition to this, we are also implementing the geolocation of companies, working on other languages to be added in the future, and other improvements that slowly you will see online.
The companies that are now using the platform to communicate and promote their products are 200. I want to thank each of them, in particular.
From the commercial point of view, as well as having participated in the event Fornitore Offresi di Erba (CO) in early January and wire and Tube Dusseldorf in March, we purchased advertising space at EuroWire and Tecnologie del Filo, and we appeared in newspapers and various trade magazines with editorials and with the list of logos of the participating companies. We have also been present at Wire & Cable India, during which - as at all the fairs - we visited all the exhibitors and distributed a flyer with the well-visible logos of the companies appearing on the portal.
We signed a key partnership with ACIMAF, becoming the official web organ of the Italian association of wire and cable manufacturers.
We have also been working with the direction of the show Made in Steel, with the fair Wire & Cable Expo China, and with Dow Jones, among others.
The old release was visited a maximum of 20,000 times per month in your industry. The new version has been designed and developed to at least triple these results, using one of the best programming languages available, thanks to a seamless integration with everything the web today provides. But the programming language is not enough, for instance at a traditional fair where you have your exhibition, you have to attract potential buyers. Our platform works like that, too, we encourage you and your marketing manager to optimise all parts of your online stand, especially by filling in the sections in a foreign language as well as you can, and to keep it up to date by posting news, press releases, etc. We are available to help you in this task, therefore, for more information please do not hesitate to contact me.
I want to thank you for the support you have given me.
I work to make this portal the best-working and most useful international platform in the industry. And I will continue to do so.
Warmest greetings and a great 2013,
Davide Dell'Oro
