USA. Nucor Steel to build new plant

USA. Nucor Steel to build new plant in St. James Parish. Nucor Steel has purchased 890 acres in St. James Parish and plans to build a new iron and steel manufacturing plant. The purchase of the land is a step in the right direction of giving Louisiana the head's up on its intentions to choose Louisiana as the new home of the plant. Nucor is also considering putting the new plant in Brazil. While the final decision has not been made yet, the company plans to go ahead with getting the final environmental permits from both state and federal levels. Stephen Moret, the Louisiana Economic Development Secretary, confirmed that Nucor had purchased the property for $16.3 million. Nucor plans to invest up to $4 million in the plant at the final selection site. If Nucor ultimately selects St. James Parish as the new home for the iron and steel plant, it will be a welcome economic boom for southern Louisiana and offer many jobs to locals in the area.
