Extrusion line for coaxial cable insulation

Extrusion line for coaxial cable insulation

Elav offers an extrusion line designed for the production of coaxial, mini, and micro-coaxial cables, dedicated to high-frequency data and signal transmission. The line is optimized for processing thermoplastic materials such as solid PE, foamed PE, and FEP, ensuring dimensional stability and precise control of the expansion level. The system enables the production of coaxial cables with Foam/Skin or Skin/Foam/Skin structures, ideal for high-performance applications.

Line configuration

Pay-offs: cantilever type (SCT)
Pre-heater: available on request
Volumetric dosing system: optional
Extrusion head: Coex 3 or Coex 4 configuration (optional)
Cooling troughs: available with telescopic hot section, straight cold section, or multi-pass configuration, also with integrated motorized capstan
Pulling capstan: TCP series (separate or integrated in the cooling trough)
Double automatic take-ups ADA: ensuring continuous operation

This structure allows stable extrusion even with small diameters, typical of miniaturized cables.

Available line types

There are two main line types available, designed to precisely control the dielectric profile and optimize the cable’s electrical performance:

Standard: processing with solid or physical foamed PE (up to 85% expansion), in Coex 2 (Foam/Skin) or Coex 3 (Skin/Foam/Skin) configurations
FEP: processing with solid or foamed FEP, also in combination with foamed PE, in Coex 2 or Coex 3 configurations

Coaxial cable insulation: processing range and technical specifications

Elav extrusion lines for coaxial cables can process copper-clad aluminum, soft copper, or copper-clad steel conductors, with diameters ranging from 0.32 mm to 2.8 mm. The maximum insulated cable diameter ranges from 5 mm to 12 mm, depending on the configuration.

Based on the material and process type, the line speed can be increased up to 2,400 m/min with PE foam, up to 1,200 m/min with FEP, and around 300 m/min for coaxial cables with larger conductor diameters.

Trust Elav for tailor-made solutions in coaxial cable production: advanced technology, high precision, and high speeds for demanding applications.
