High-precision liquid silane dosing system – Si-Jet

Si-Jet is the dosing system developed and patented by Elav for the controlled injection of liquid silane on extrusion lines dedicated to polyethylene crosslinking (XLPE monosil). It is a compact, precise, and fully automated solution designed to ensure strict additive control and optimize the crosslinking process.

 

Advanced control for silane dosing

 

The core element of the Si-Jet system is a high-precision gravimetric dosing unit that combines a mass flow meter and a gravimetric system (load cells).

 

This dual technology allows for precise control of silane percentages as low as 1% with high repeatability, ensuring consistent product quality and minimizing waste. In case of a dosing error, the system triggers an automatic alarm to prevent non-compliant material from advancing, greatly reducing the risk of defects and scrap.

 

Automation, safety, and integration

 

The system is fully automated and managed by a Siemens PLC, which can be interfaced via Profinet or Profibus for seamless integration with the extrusion line, even from third-party suppliers. All parts in contact with the liquid are made of AISI 316 stainless steel and PTFE, and the system operates in an inert atmosphere (nitrogen) to ensure safety when handling flammable liquids and prevent crystallization, improving ease of maintenance.

 

Efficient mixing for optimal performance

 

Si-Jet is not limited to dosing: it also includes static and dynamic mixing technology, enabling excellent dispersion of the additive into the polymer. The injection system is integrated into the mixer, which can process both solid and liquid materials. This solution maximizes silane efficiency, reduces raw material consumption, and improves crosslinking uniformity.
