Mechanical descaling units

Mechanical descaling units

WiTechs mechanical descaling machines prepare wire surfaces by bending, following by, sanding, or brushing processes, supporting stable downstream drawing and improving overall line efficiency. Designed for a broad range of wire qualities, these systems help reduce die wear, prevent production interruptions, and deliver consistent surface conditions across continuous manufacturing operations. A stable quality output is what WiTechs delivers with their mechanical descaling solutions.

Bending descaling units – BBE and WEZ series

WiTechs bending descalers remove scale by cracking it off the wire surface through controlled bending across multiple rolls. This mechanical process ensures consistent descaling performance on a wide range of low- and high-carbon wire diameters and supports stable operation in drawing and pre-treatment lines.

Main features:

• Multi-roll bending systems for effective scale breaking, with roll number and bending direction depending on model
• Long-life tungsten carbide or ceramic inserts on all bending rolls
• Adjustable roll positioning for quick setup and easy wire infeeding in zero-position
• Optional integrated straightener or wire break control depending on configuration
• Scale collection by wagon, with screw conveyor optionally available
• Wire diameters starting at 4.5 mm
• Wire speeds up to 10.0 m/s

Sanding descaling units – SEZ series

WiTechs bending descalers remove scale by cracking it off the wire surface through controlled bending across multiple rolls. This mechanical process ensures consistent descaling performance on a wide range of low- and high-carbon wire diameters and supports stable operation in drawing and pre-treatment lines.

Main features:

• Automatic acceleration and deceleration of the flyer and belts during start and stop
• Grinding belt overlap can be installed, auto-adjusting at line speed
• Belt lifetime monitoring with warnings and safety functions
• Special grooved and coated belt rollers for long service life and dust removal
• Adjustable crowned top roller to keep the sanding belt centered
• Belt break safety system based on torque detection
• Multiple maintenance timers
• Easy-to-operate functions secured against unnecessary operator access
• Solid sealed body, no dust escapes with proper suction
• Belt tensioning adjustment
• Push-button belt release for safe belt change
• Automatic positioning of tension roller when doors close
• Dedicated dust-free lighting compartment
• Start/stop and reset of drawing line possible from sanding machine
• Total cost of ownership below €10 per metric ton of wire
• Diameter range up to 34 mm

Brush descaling units – WBE and Ecoclean series

WiTechs brush descalers remove rust, scale, and surface residues through high-efficiency brushing or rotating pad cleaning, depending on the model. Designed for stable performance across various wire qualities, they combine long service life with low operating costs and easy, operator-friendly handling.

Main features:

• Two or three brush pairs at 90° on brush-based models; Ecoclean with 24 rotating pads
• Automatic and autonomous brush re-adjustment on WBE models
• Long service life of brushes or pads, up to 3000 metric tons
• Low noise level and quick replacement
• Suitable for any wire quality; Ecoclean handles aluminium, stainless steel, copper, selected high-carbon
• Wire diameters from 3.0 to 18.0 mm
• Wire speeds up to 10.0 m/s

Together, these solutions deliver reliable wire surface preparation and support consistent performance across drawing and processing lines. For more information about WiTechs’ mechanical descaling systems or assistance in selecting the right configuration, you are invited to contact the company directly. Depending on the requested quality; WiTechs offers the best fit for your process. Total costs of ownership (TCO) of less than €2 per metric Ton of wire produced.
