Tubular stranding lines for wire ropes
High-speed tubular stranding machines are designed for the production of a wide range of steel strands and ropes, including compacted and non-compacted products manufactured from bright, galvanized or stainless steel wire. Typical applications also include pre-stressed and non-pre-stressed elevator ropes, Bowden strands and other special rope constructions.
Tandem tubular stranding machines may operate either as two independent units or as a combined system for manufacturing strand constructions. For elevator rope production, the machines can be equipped with a stretching unit, while the addition of a bull-head pay-off allows the production of Bowden cables and special ropes.
Rotor and bobbin systems
The rotor consists of tubular sections supported by circumferential bearings, a design that enables high operating speeds while reducing power losses and simplifying maintenance. Depending on the selected bobbin size, each section can accommodate up to four bobbins, with lubrication and bearing temperature continuously monitored during operation.
Several bobbin tension control systems are available, including Teflon or Kevlar mechanical brakes, contact roller and dancer-controlled brakes, electrically adjustable brakes and electric brakes for automatic tension control.
Drive and automation
The machines are powered by frequency-controlled three-phase motors with independent drives for the stranding rotor, haul-off and take-up units, eliminating the need for conventional gear transmissions and allowing continuous adjustment of speed and lay length from the control panel.
PLC-based control with a touchscreen interface provides machine supervision, production management, process monitoring, data recording, and service diagnostics, while managing speed synchronization, torque and traction control, with controlled braking to maintain product quality even during power interruptions.
Ancillary equipment
To complete the stranding line, the machines can be supplied with stationary, rotating or traversing pay-off and take-up units for bobbins up to 3,000 mm flange diameter, double-capstan haul-offs with pulling forces up to 400 kN, pre- and post-forming devices, compacting and calibrating equipment, and strand and rope lubrication and tension measurement systems.
